We are a group of like-minded volunteers who believe that our culture and heritage is central to a sustainable community. We aim to preserve our past for the enjoyment, interest and benefit of future generations of Basildonians.
We do this by:
Collecting memories from people who have lived in the area for a long time.
Collect photographs and other keepsakes to be used at the various exhibitions we hold in libraries and other venues around Basildon.
Giving talks to groups interested in their local history, either here at The Green Centre or outbased.
Our Office and on-going displays are at the Green Centre, Wat Tyler
Basildon Heritage meet most Mondays and Wednesdays 10am-1pm as well as Saturdays 10am-4:00pm. The office is closed on Bank Holidays.
Basildon Heritage are always looking for volunteers of all skills: Photographers, Archive scanners, IT, Admin, Archivists, Presenters, Authors, Historians and Genealogists.
We can offer training in most skills the society needs
Basildon – Our Future
Heritage is all around us. It is not just to be found in magnificent stately homes, the romantic ruins of medieval castles and abbeys, or beautiful arranged exhibits in museums.
It is people that create the heritage of an area so our heritage project in Basildon is focused on who we are. It will be an interweaving history from the Mesolithic period to the 21st Century, covering the Borough’s culture and traditions.
The aim is to make all the residents of Basildon Borough aware, not only of their urban environment and their built heritage, but also of the open spaces, the woodland and grassland with its rich biodiversity.
